Our Upcoming Grande Dame
of the Blues
March 29, 2017

When the Viree Blues team featured her in 2012, as their favourite and as a “to watch fast rising star” on the Blues scene, the gang was so on target!   Then the band was at it’s very start, almost unknown to the public.   They’ve since been nominated for two Lys Blues, have performed on major festivals like the Quebec City Summer Festival, Tremblant Blues and the Montreal International Jazz Festival.   They made their way as finalists to the “Toronto Blues Society’s Talent Search” and came out one of four finalists selected by the “Montreal Blues Society” as top self-produced album in view of the “Memphis International Blues Challenge”.   Right now, they are preparing their 3rd  album.   A dazzling ascension in four years only for our guests: The Ria Reece Band.

The Ria Reece Band is considered by many as “Soul-Rock” strongly rooted in the Blues and classic R&B.   Their musical influences:  Blues and R&B’s legends such as Etta James, Koko Taylor and Marvin Gaye as well as modern Blues-Rock bands such as Alabama Shakes and Vintage Trouble.   This Montreal-based band always offers breathtaking energy and passion every single time and throughout every performance.   Powerful and entrancing, Ria’s voice is the magical component in the band featuring in this Viree Blues Moosehead presentation the quintet of Andre Chevarie on guitar, Sylvain Lamothe on bass, Pascal Lepage on drums and JP Bouffard on B3 and Rhodes.   The Ria Reece Band gets to the top of the Soul and the Blues emotion and easily conveys it to it’s constantly increasing audiences.

Launched in 2013, their first eponymous album reached the top 10 on the charts of many radio stations across Canada and a total success for the Blues fans in the province.   Reacting to the album launch, the Net Blues writes: (freely translated) “During the night, we felt like witnessing the birth of a new star in the Blues firmament.   An energetic and so refreshing performance with an entrancing and passionate lead singer in close communication with her musicians.   If you’re a Blues and Soul fan, you won’t be able to resist Ria Reece’s attraction, be it on recordings or in performance...   It’s in July of that year, that the band performed at the Quebec City Summer Festival

In 2014, the Ria Reece Band was nominated to two Lys Blues awards: “Album of the Year, Blues and associated styles” and “Discovery Band of the Year”.   The band also reached the finals on the Toronto Blues Society’s Talent Search.   This performance at the Toronto Blues Society’s Talent Search earned them an invitation to the Blues Summit 7 in 2015.   In May, they were on the Canadian Music Week Tour.

Ria Reece Band’s second album, “Out All Night”(2015), features a performance by Guy Belanger (who will also be with us on April 12) on the harmonica and Pat Loiselle on the slide guitar.   Just as for their first album, they got rave reviews.   That album was also selected by Montreal’s Blues Society for the IBC (International Blues Challenge), among the four top independently produced Blues albums.   “Out All Night” can be heard on Stingray radio and on  DAWG.FM to name only those two, and reached the top 10 on many radio stations in Canada.
